Time to take stock of where we are up. Its been a tough year with lots of downs and some ups. Maybe we are finally through the worst of it, I hope so.
Despite all the boat has crept along bit at a time. Here is where we are up to now.
Construction in the forward storage section has finished and painting completed. Still to do in here is trimming and fitting locker doors.
Coming aft along the boat major construction in the sleeping cabins is completed and it is partially painted. Still to do here is fitting locker doors, trimming and fitting bunk bases.
Moving aft again, construction in the main cabin is about half done. The port side seat lockers are fitted and ready for painting. The frame for the stb side galley is in place. We still need to fit panelling to make the lockers here.
Construction in the shower / toilet is finished. Still to do is tidy it up for painting and fit plumbing.
Outside we have started fairing up the deck and aft cabin ready for painting. The winch bases are also fitted. That was a fair bit of work. Each base is made up of about 10 laminations of ply and timber, drilled and ready to mount the winches.
Fairing up is a real art. If there is one thing that makes me realise how little I know about boat building it is this part of it. Without the help and advice of the boat yard experts I always make a real dogs breakfast of the job.
I’ll try and get some photos next time I am doing this to illustrate. Problem is I am usually so busy trying to keep up with everything I have no time to grab the camera.
Also, its one of the messiest parts. Being covered from head to toe in sanding dust is no picnic. Not to mention the minute fragments of glass fibre that find their way into everything.
