We had a good day and got the wave breaker and forward cabin in place. The cabin still needs a lid, and the wave breaker needs to be trimmed up and strengthened with another layer of timber.
Its covered in shavings and not cleaned up yet, but here it is.
The planks running in the center line of the foredeck will have all the mooring and anchoring fittings mounted on them. They are very strongly bolted through deck beams and also the forward bulkhead which spreads the load as wide as possible.
The section of deck inside the new cabin will become a small cupboard at the front of the boat. The access hatch cut-out is also visible.
Did I mention how much I like boat nails? I had forgotten about them until I found some embedded in the bits of the boat we were dismantling.
They are strong enough to hammer in without pre drilling (mostly anyway), and once in they hold on like grim death. The serrated shaft makes them really grip.
Of course, if you make a mistake and want to pull one out, forget it. So of course, dont make mistakes ….
