We are working in the aft cabin now.
Its a difficult part of the boat because we have to fit the bulky steering gear underneath the bunks and space is tight. We want to allow space for both hydraulic steering and a Cape Horn wind vane system.
There is not enough width at the stern of the boat to allow for a bunk on each side with the steering gear in between unless the bunks are angled to follow the line of the hull.
So the challenge becomes how to fit and construct rectangular bunk bases in a sharply trapezoid space.
After much thought it seems the best solution is to support the bunks on a series of half height bulkheads that are constructed in the normal way at right angles to and perpendicular to the keel.
The bunks are then just a rectangular frame laid at an angle across the supporting bulkheads. Its a bit hard to describe in words, but the photos will make it clearer as we go along.
First step is to get the half height bulkheads cut out and fitted in place.
