Endeavour

The tall ship Endeavour is down at the harbour for a few days.  It is a replica of the boat sailed by Captain Cook on his voyage of discovery to Australia.

Did someone say he discovered Australia?   The several million or so Aborigines and their descendants still alive today who have lived here for about 40,000 years are rather bemused by this claim.

We went down on a day when a freezing cold south – easter was blowing.   Fascinating boat to look at.  The story is that we could not build such a boat today because there are not enough large trees left to supply the timber.  Interesting comment on human guardianship of the earth’s resources.

The front looks like the broad side of a barn door. Not a speed machine this one.

Now thats a sensible sized block or two

I think a cannon used to greet visitors to this port

The captains end of the boat. Must have been nice on a sunny day.

An I thought our rig was complicated...
