Making progress

A bit of help from the boatyard gets things moving along nicely.

The floor in the main cabin is half done, the bulkhead between the main cabin and the forward cabin is half in place and there is good progress in the forward cabin.

We are using aluminium flooring sitting on aluminium frames.  Its just a lot quicker than messing around with ply and timber frames.

We’ve got a nice little corner at the boatyard.  Caravan next to the boat, step outside and I’m at work.

Just got to watch the sand flies and mossies.  There is not to many of them, but the sand flies particularly pack a wallop.

Our corner

There were 13 holes in the hull either at or below the waterline when we started this work.  That’s a lot of holes – far to many for my liking.

As we get the floor down we need to fill them.  The technique is simple.  Shape a piece of hardwood about 150mm x 150mm to fit over the hole.  Bed it in epoxy and through bolt it to the hull.  Fill the hole through the hull with epoxy from the outside.  When the epoxy is dry, sand it fair then cover the entire area with a layer of glass mat and epoxy resin.
