After a few weeks of being flat out at work and rainy days I finally got back to the boat again.
I finished fairing the cabin top extension and sealed it with everdure. The thin epoxy solution soaks into the ply like water into a sponge. It’s great stuff because it soaks in then sets right inside the timber.
It creates an epoxy barrier above and below the surface of the timber or plywood that goes a long way to prevent water penetration and dry rot.
Finally a layer of 225 glass matting soaked in epoxy resin was spread over all the new timber and plywood.
I really am not very good at that bit. I am OK with woodwork, I understand wood and how to work with it but working with glues and resins and glass matting really is a bit beyond me.
I usually end up making a mess that requires more work to clean up. The yard boys have tried to explain it to me, but I still haven’t got it right. Ah well, I will have plenty opportunities to practice …
