Glassed off

After a few weeks of being flat out at work and rainy days I finally got back to the boat again.

I finished fairing the cabin top extension and sealed it with everdure.  The thin epoxy solution soaks into the ply like water into a sponge.  It’s great stuff because it soaks in then sets right inside the timber.

It creates an epoxy barrier above and below  the surface of the timber or plywood that goes a long way to prevent water penetration and dry rot.

Finally  a layer of 225 glass matting soaked in epoxy resin was spread over all the new timber and plywood.

Glass matting on

I really am not very good at that bit.  I am OK with woodwork, I understand wood and how to work with it but working with glues and resins and glass matting really is a bit beyond me.

I usually end up making a mess that requires more work to clean up.  The yard boys have tried to explain it to me, but I still haven’t got it right.  Ah well, I will have plenty opportunities to practice …

Its a bit messy
